The USGS recorded two large-magnitude seismic events in an interval of less than a minute:

  • M7.5 — Jun 24, 2026, 18:05:12 UTC. Epicenter: 23 km southeast of Yumare. Depth: 10.0 km. Coordinates: 10.5° N, 68.4° W.
  • M7.2 — Jun 24, 2026, 18:04:33 UTC. Epicenter: 24 km northeast of San Felipe. Depth: 21.9 km.

The USGS revised the magnitude of the main event upward to 7.5, as reported by AZ Intel minutes after the earthquake. The official map shows both epicenters concentrated in the central-northern region of the country, with intensities that would have been strongly felt in Caracas and coastal towns.

EFE Noticias specifies that the two earthquakes were separated by just 39 seconds, with the epicenter of the main event in the municipality of Montalbán, Carabobo state, about 300 km east of Caracas.

At 23:17 UTC, NOAA issued the message «Non-US Caribe Threat #3» concluding: «No Tsunami Warning, Advisory, Watch, or Threat». There is no tsunami warning in effect for the Caribbean region or adjacent coasts.
