Bethesda Game Studios confirmed this Wednesday, June 11 that the Starfield update 1.16.244 is now available on all platforms. The announcement, posted on the studio's official especially to stability: freezing when traveling across planetary surfaces, failures in Black Box raids and crashes linked to the ship decoration system.
On consoles, the same patch appears numbered as 1,000,006. Bethesda recommends updating both the base game and the Terran Armada DLC, whose Terran raids and black boxes concentrated several of the corrected bugs. For PS5 players – where the title arrived in April 2026 – this is one of the most relevant stability reviews since the launch on that platform.
What the patch fixes
The official notes are organized into three blocks: General, Gameplay and Interface. General corrections include:
- A freezing that could occur when passing through the surface of a planet.
- Black Box Raids that would not start or restart correctly.
- A crash when placing a Designer Couch on board a ship.
- An infinite load caused by data slate screens installed on ships.
- General stability improvements and prevention of unexpected shutdowns.
In gameplay, the patch fixes a crash state when trying to cross loading gates while the scanner was active, corrects the size of the Delta companion, prevents consuming Quantum Essence from Favorites without stock in the inventory, prevents certain points of interest from appearing on planets without human presence, and reduces the density of asteroids in a specific space encounter.
Interface and Starmap changes
The interface section addresses issues that directly affected navigation and customization. When loading a saved game, incorrectly displayed raid icons on the Starmap disappear; the vehicle menu is no longer locked; and fixes texture artifacts during character creation and text strings that caused incorrect fonts. Bethesda also updated the game's credits.
"This update contains multiple stability fixes, including a freeze that could occur when traversing planetary surfaces."
Context: a game in continuous evolution
Since its premiere in 2023, Starfield has received dozens of updates that have expanded content—vehicles, bases, New Atlantis—and polished performance. With the arrival on PS5 in April 2026 and the Terran Armada DLC, the active player base grew, but reports of crashes on the Sony console also resurfaced. This patch responds directly to that pressure: it doesn't introduce new content, but it addresses bugs that interrupted long exploration sessions and DLC raids.
For those who customize their ships with furniture from the Creator's shop, the Designer Couch fixes and the data slate screens are especially relevant: two decorative elements that, paradoxically, could render the entire ship unusable. The community had documented both cases on forums and networks in the weeks leading up to the patch.
How to install the update
The download should start automatically on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, and Game Pass), Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 if your system has background updates enabled. If it does not appear, it is advisable to manually check the download queue of the corresponding platform and restart the game after completing the installation. Bethesda has not indicated any server downtime or scheduled maintenance associated with this deployment.
With Starfield consolidated as one of the pillars of Bethesda's catalog along with The Elder Scrolls and the recent Indiana Jones and the Great Circle campaign, the stability patches continue to be a sign that the studio keeps the title active. For players who returned with Terran Armada, this update is, above all, an invitation to return to the Starmap without fear of losing progress due to an avoidable crash.
