Rockstar Games confirmed this Thursday, June 18 that reservations for Grand Theft Auto VI will officially open on June 25, 2026, both in digital stores—PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store—and in selected physical retailers. The announcement came accompanied by the first official cover image of the game, presented in a short 33-second video that recovers the pop-art collage style characteristic of the saga.

The news was published simultaneously on Rockstar Games' X account, on its official website and on the studio's Newswire. In a matter of hours, the shares of Take-Two Interactive – Rockstar's parent company – rose by 3.4% at the opening of the New York market, as reported Bloomberg. For many analysts, opening pre-orders less than five months after launch is a clear sign that the studio is confident of meeting the planned date.

A milestone in the launch campaign

Since Rockstar delayed GTA 6 for the second time – from May to November 2026 – the gaming community has lived between euphoria and distrust. The stockpile announcement ends months of speculation fueled by leaks from European retailers and ambiguous statements in calls with investors.

"Opening pre-orders so close to the launch is what a studio does that knows it will deliver," summarizes the dominant reaction on networks. In X, Rockstar's post accumulated millions of interactions in a few hours, with the cover shared massively by gaming accounts, specialized media and players from all over the world.

The cover: a collage of Vice City and Leonida

The official cover follows the visual tradition of the saga: a mosaic of panels that condense characters, vehicles and scenes from the game universe. In the center, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval occupy the place of honor. On its sides appear an armed helicopter, a wheelie motorcycle, a yellow sports car and already confirmed secondary characters such as Boobie Ike and Raul Bautista.

At the bottom of the collage you can see elements that reinforce the setting of Leonida—the fictional version of Florida—: an alligator, a boat with flamingo, palm trees and the skyline of Vice City at sunset. Rockstar has made the cover available in high resolution in its downloads section.

How much will it cost? What we know and what we don't

Rockstar has not revealed the price in its statement on Thursday. That information, according to Take-Two, will arrive "closer to June 25," when reservations are active. Even so, the market is already debating whether GTA 6 will be the first major title to exceed $100 in its standard edition.

«Consumers pay for the value you bring them, and our job is to charge much, much, much less than what we deliver.»

— Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, on the price of GTA 6

The most reliable signals point to a range of 69.99 to 79.99 dollars (about 70–80 euros) for the standard edition, in line with the current price of new generation AAAs. A report from consulting firm Epyllion suggested the possibility of $100, but neither Rockstar nor Take-Two have confirmed it. It is likely that there will be deluxe and collector's editions at higher prices - as has been the case with recent titles in the industry - although these have not been announced either.

Where to book and what to expect

Starting June 25, players will be able to pre-order GTA 6 at:

  • PlayStation Store — digital version for PS5
  • Microsoft Store — digital version for Xbox Series X|S
  • Selected retailers — physical copies in authorized stores
  • rockstargames.com/VI — official portal with links and downloadable material

Rockstar warns that any third-party websites that claim to accept pre-orders before June 25 are legitimate. The PC version has no confirmed date; The studio has followed the pattern of GTA V, which arrived on the computer months after its debut on consoles.

The official trailers to date

Rockstar has released two official trailers. The first, in December 2023, featured Lucia and Jason in the swamps and beaches of Leonida with Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road" as the soundtrack. The second, from May 2025, delved into the criminal conspiracy spanning the entire state and showed off locations like Ocean Beach, Port Gellhorn, and the Leonida Keys — all captured on PS5.

The road until November

Grand Theft Auto VI was originally announced for autumn 2025. After a first delay to May 2026 and a second to November 2026, Strauss Zelnick has reiterated on several occasions that there will be no more postponements. The marketing campaign – which Take-Two described as “this summer” – now kicks off in earnest: cover art, pre-orders and, most likely, a third trailer in the coming weeks.

For an industry undergoing a wave of layoffs and cancellations, the launch of GTA 6 is not just a commercial event: it is a litmus test of whether a premium title can continue to move hundreds of millions of units in the era of live service and subscriptions. Rockstar knows it. And that's why, perhaps, he waited until he had something tangible—a cover, a date, a promise—before asking the player to take out his wallet.
