Sony and Insomniac Games have closed one of the great unknowns of the year on console: Marvel's Wolverine will arrive on September 15, 2026 exclusively to PlayStation 5, with reservations already open in PlayStation Store. The confirmation comes along with an extended gameplay trailer presented at the State of Play June 2026.
What is Marvel's Wolverine
It is an original action adventure based on the character from the comics, created by the team behind the saga Marvel's Spider-Man. Logan thought he had left Wolverine behind, but the past comes back to claim him: Three years after leaving his team, he rejoins Team X in one of its darkest moments.
The industrialist Bolivar Trask, obsessed with human superiority, kidnaps mutants. Wolverine must cross locations such as the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo and the island of Madripoor to save them. Figures appear along the way like Jean Grey, as well as iconic villains like Omega Red and the Reavers.
Gameplay: brutality, techniques and fury
Insomniac relies on fast and fluid combat with the adamantium claws: ambushes, interchangeable techniques and accumulation of Rage to finish off confrontations. The trailer emphasizes the violence of the character — dismemberments, visible wounds, and a healing factor that activates in simplified QTE sequences.
You also see movement mechanics with claws, stealth ambushes and a set piece on a motorcycle chasing a convoy. On PS5 Pro the game will use PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) to improve image and fluidity.
